Do you need a holiday? With the summer holidays feeling like a distant memory, what you need is something to look forward to, a winter holiday that will give you a boost to see you through to next spring.
There are lots of different options for a winter break, and they don’t have to cost a fortune. Even a few days away can help you recharge your batteries ready to face the world again.
Below are some winter holiday ideas. You can find more suggestions on TUI’s website, Vivup’s Holiday Scheme partner.
City breaks – a long weekend in a vibrant city is a great way to energise yourself and come back feeling like you can tackle anything! There are plenty of exciting European cities to explore that are just a short flight away, but what about going further afield?
New York is an exciting destination for a long weekend. Book on a sightseeing tour to take in major sights and sounds, visit Times Square and art galleries and museums, or hire a bike in Central Park, go shopping on Fifth Avenue, and enjoy cocktails in a rooftop bar. You won’t be able to do everything in one visit, but that leaves the possibility of a repeat trip some other time.
Another popular US city destination is Las Vegas. Holiday companies will take you there for three or four nights, or you might want to make a week of it…
Also popular for city breaks is Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The flight time from London is less than seven hours, and there’s lots to do. This city has the tallest skyscrapers, biggest shopping malls and most luxurious hotels, but it also has souks and bazaars to explore, and a city beach.
Winter sun – if you want a holiday on the beach or by the pool there are destinations you can fly to in under five hours. The Canary Islands, Madeira and Cape Verde are just off the west coast of Africa so you can expect sunshine and warm temperatures during the winter months. Or what about going further East or West? Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives and Thailand are great winter destinations, as are the Caribbean Islands and Mexico.
Northern Lights – wrap up warm and head north for a trip to see the Northern Lights! The winter months are the best time to catch this spectacular natural light display. A trip to the world’s most northerly capital, Reykjavik in Iceland, is a good way of doing it: most tour operators schedule a Northern Lights Tour for your first night so that if they don’t appear you can go again on another night.
Christmas spirit – a visit to Lapland at Christmas is on many families’ bucket lists. Real snow, log cabins, reindeer sleigh rides and the chance to meet Santa puts everyone in the Christmas spirit. Lapland also has some fantastic Christmas markets to really get you in the festive spirit. However, you don’t have to go to Lapland for this. Lots of cities around the world pull out all the stops with their Christmas markets, including New York, Reykjavík and even Bangkok! Read more about Christmas markets here.
We hope that this has given you a few ideas of where you could go. A short break in the winter months is a great way to recharge and give yourself a treat. See whether your employer runs a holiday scheme. These employee benefit schemes allow you to spread the cost over 12 months through monthly salary reductions, thereby making a holiday more affordable, easier to manage and no deposit is required!
